Travelling sustainably through the Alps

Explore the Salt Mine Berchtesgaden

Yoalin travellers get reduced entrance tickets (up to minus 50%) to the Salt Mine Berchtesgaden from 1st July – 30th September.

The salt mine Berchtesgaden looks back on an eventful history, starting in 1517 with the opening of the Petersberg tunnel. In 2017, the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine celebrated the uninterrupted 500 years of mining the white gold. Visiting the Berchtesgarden Salt Mine is an excursion through the history of the earth, imagination and exciting information that you will experience with all your senses.

In the visitor mine you can learn how salt is still extracted in so-called sinking pits. You will travel along a total of 1,400 metres of track with the visitors’ railway, which takes you into the interior of the salt mine. The ride across the underground Salt Lake is also a highlight of the underground tour.
